SAWW Text South African Water Works (or SAWW) is a proudly South African water utility that manages two 30-year water concession contracts in two rapidly developing areas in South Africa, being Ballito and Mbombela.
We are trusted to serve approximately half a million people with vital water services on a daily basis and provide 150 megalitres of safe, clean drinking water and treat approximately 60 megalitres of sewer per day.
Siza Water
Siza Water, established in 1999 was the first water Private Public Partnership, or PPP, in South Africa. The company is located in the rapidly developing town of Ballito within the Ilembe District Municipality and the surrounding areas include Shakashead, Shakaskraal, Tinley Manor, Shayamoya and Etete.
Silulumanzi
Silulumanzi commenced business in 1999 and serves the City of Mbombela with water services. The service area includes Mbombela city, KaNyamazane, Matsulu and the surrounding peri-urban areas.

Reliable Services
The cities of Mbombela and Ballito have been positively impacted by the presence of SAWW, by rendering reliable and efficient services that provide an enabling environment to support growth and development over the past 20 years. We cover the entire water cycle, from abstraction of raw water, treating this into potable drinking water, distributing the water to end users, operating and maintaining the infrastructure, upgrading infrastructure, billing customers, as well as treating the wastewater to the regulated standards.
One of the key assets developed was the Water Reuse Plant in Ballito, this was the saving grace of the town during the 2016 to 2018 drought, as it ensured there was adequate water supply.

The Reuse plant employs the use of Multimedia sand filters, Ultra Filtration, Reverse Osmosis membranes as well as Ultra-Violet Technologies. Both Siza and Silulumanzi operate under 30-year Concession Contracts and have a proud track record in the Water Industry. They have both achieved many accolades which include the sought-after Blue Drop, for water quality, and Green Drop, for wastewater quality from the Department of Water and Sanitation. Recognizing the unrelenting work of SAWW, Siza Water was rewarded as South Africa’s Best Water Service Provider in the 2014 Blue Drop audit by the Department of Water and Sanitation.
Striving For Excellence
Silulumanzi has also achieved Platinum Blue Drop Status and the waste water systems of both companies are Green Drop Accredited. In our strive for excellence, both companies have been independently accredited for their Integrated Management Systems covering International Standards for Health and Safety; Environmental Management and Quality Systems.
